COMPETING SERIES: There are no competitors.
GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: Toldohn soils are on escarpments and sideslopes of mesas, cuestas, ridges, breaks and hills. Elevation is 6,800 to 8,000 feet. These soils formed in slope alluvium from sandstone and shale. Slope is 8 to 40 percent. The mean annual precipitation is 13 to 16 inches which occurs as intense summer thunderstorms and as gentle winter rain or snow. The mean annual temperature is 46 to 53 degrees F. The frost-free period is 100 to 135 days.
GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the Deschell, Orlie, Hosta and Nizhoni soils. Deschell and Orlie soils are fine-loamy. Hosta soils are deep and fine textured. Nizhoni soils are coarse-loamy.
DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Well drained; medium to very high runoff; slow permeability.
USE AND VEGETATION: These soils are used for grazing, woodland, wildlife habitat, and recreation. Potential native vegetation is pinyon, juniper, big sage, blue grama, cliffrose, mountain mahogany and oakbrush.
DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: Northwestern New Mexico. MLRA 35, LRR-D. The series is of moderate extent.
MLRA OFFICE RESPONSIBLE: Phoenix, Arizona
SERIES ESTABLISHED: McKinley County Area, New Mexico; McKinley County and Parts of Cibola and San Juan Counties, 2001.
