COMPETING SERIES: These are the
Blanding (UT),
Depolvo (NM),
Hyer (NM),
Tensleep (WY), and
Wyotite series.
Blanding soils: Depth to the base of the argillic is greater than 60 inches
Depolvo soils: have a mica content of 10 to 25 percent in the silt and fine sand fraction
Hyer soils: have hues of 7.5YR and 25 to 35 percent sand
Tensleep soils: have hues of 2.5YR to 7.5YR
Wyotite soils: are slightly acid to neutral in the Bt horizon
GEOGRAPHIC SETTING:
Landform: plains and hills
Slopes: range from 0 to 15 percent
Parent material: loess
Mean annual precipitation: 11 to 14 inches, most of which falls during the months of April through September.
Mean annual air temperature: 47 to 53 degrees F.
Average summer temperature: 68 to 74 degrees F.
Frost-free season: 125 to 155 days
Elevation ranges from 4,000 to 6,500 feet.
